To a Haggis...

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the Puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.

Our haggis, neeps and tatties burns Supper...with a nip or two of 10 year old Macallan

Happy Burns Day!

Robert Burns, or Rabbie, as he's known, is celebrated on this day, his birthday by Scots around the world.   This weekend, we couldn't attend a proper Burns Supper for the first time in ages, so we had a wee one all to ourselves.   I'm glad we didn't wait as today I am poorly although I'm sure it will be shortlived; I'd have had to force that whisky down there...yeah...right....

A wee apology for not visiting blogs recently, my computer isn't working properly and will hardly let me post, let alone browse.   That's why I'm ill today...my body has went into shock!   I shall hopefully resume normal service soon, my lovely bloggy peeps.  Lots of cheap and lovely recipes to follow....
Til then, raise a glass.......to Burns!

slàinte!

I can't say that I've heard of Robert Burns before reading your post, but if celebrating his holiday involves whiskey, I think I like him already :)

Hope you are feeling better soon!

Happy Burns Night from one Scot to another. X.

I had my first taste of (vegetarian) haggis this evening; we did Burns Night with our Brownies. They all had a fun evening of learning just a teeny bit about Scotland... but I didn't think of making such a pretty stack.

Yum, that looks so appetizing! (although it could also be because it's my dinner time and all I have waiting for me is a salad!) But no, it looks great! I hope you and your computer get better soon!

Have an Extraordinary Day!

I've never hears of your celebratory day...but I have heard of Haggis thanks to So I Married an Axe Murderer. Have you ever seen it? It's hilarious!

I must admit not a fan of Haggis at all.

My FIL celebrates Burns Day, but he can't get me or my kids near Haggis.

Happy Haggis day and all! One of the other blogs I follow is celebrating too but lamenting the fact that he can't find a proper haggis stateside. I told him I would be adventurous and actually try a taste but that I couldn't promise I'd like it.

Here's a nip of whiskey raised in Burns honor (my whiskey looks a lot like pinot noir, however!)

Sorry my love- I just can't face the haggis, no matter how pretty your stack! (But I will share that drink with you!) :)

Brittany, he's our national poet and a philandering womaniser at that....what can I say, we're a flighty lot! *L* Thank you, I'm much better today.

Carolyn, thanks lass, I hope you had a good one.

Rachel, this may be sacrilege, but I think veggie haggis is wonderful!

Inspired Dreamer, twas delightful! You have a wonderful day too lass!

Kristin, oh yes! I love that movie....especially the 'big heid' and pillow scene...*LOL*

Ms Bibi, would you consider trying the vegetarian kind? It's really nice and without all the awful offal bits....*L*

5thsister, cheers to you lass! We have a website, not yet up and running, about this very problem stateside; your bloggy friend will like it: it's called the Haggis Smuggler... ;O)

Virginia Mom, no worries lass, a drink will suffice! ;O)

aladinsane, you have to admire his cheek, that's for sure...;O) Cheers!

Anna, thank you my lass. :O) xx

Protege, ah, you would! I hope you are well. xx

Your burns supper looks elegant and I never thought of serving it like that before.

Since whisky and I don't agree, my toast will look a different colour but the greetings are warm.

I think I need to drink Whiskey just to understand what the above means. It might as well be in Greek to me.

Ooh, Beth, there is a question and the reason you can't get it in America...offal is in it..and oats, spices, etc. But mainly offal. I'm not a fan usually but haggis is my one exception.... :O)

Ohh... I see. Thanks for the reply.

Found you via SITS on my first night visiting there. Imagine my surprise that you live in Glasgow. We were there last August and will be back again next summer. Such a beautiful city -- and country. I'll be back to read up on all your money-saving tips. We have 4 boys who, as they get older, eat us out of house and home.

A belated 'slàinte!' tae ye, lass! I didn't attend a Burns Supper either this year. Still recovering from the last one. ;) Did you hear that haggis will be allowed into the States again?! The last time i went 'home' i brought a dozen veggie MacSween's for a Scots pal of mine. I think we ate the lot while i was there! Great stuff! Glad to see you back. I've not been visiting blogs regularly either. :( Too much going on at the moment. I'm going to have to take a break actually...from posting not from reading your delicious posts! ;) Lizzy
