Receipt 4th July-18th July 2009

Just been shopping; two weeks worth of meals folks at a cost of just under £90 with £10 left over for sundries. Woohoo. I bought 14 days worth of dinners, lunches, snacks and breakfast. I bought expensive rocket, spinach and watercress salad leaves reduced to 35 pence a packet as the sell by date is today. It's still lovely and fresh however I'll be using it to make soup for tomorrow's lunch. I also bought 3kg bread flour; I thought I'd get back into making bread since school is out and I have a little more time on my hands.

I bought coriander and parsley fresh to go with a few recipes but I'll use the remainder coriander for a curry dish and also in soup with the remaining parsley used possibly for a white parsley sauce for the leftover chicken!

The kids all got a sweetie and they picked some crisps. Now, I'm a salt freak. I love the stuff but obviously try and not eat too much of the stuff so that I can live past 40 but what I enjoy most is salt nuts, crisps and potato snacks. These of course are not the healthiest stuff on the planet plus, when you think about it, they cost a bomb, if you take the price of potatoes into consideration. I wouldn't deprive the kids the occasional packet and let them pick some Doritos but for myself, I picked a huge packet...12 smaller packets I think...of Asda brand potato chips at 47 pence. Yup, that's for all 12 packets. Each packet is under 100 calories and I add some sea salt and freshly ground black pepper; expensive tasting crisps at a fraction of the cost.

As you can also see from this list, we all choose a book as a lot were reduced to £1. I also stocked up on some basics like pickled onions, stock cubes, 24 eggs, partbaked baguettes, fruit and tissues.

I love salty snacks too. I really have to control myself because I love them so much.

Yup, control is the big issue! Toasted almonds seem to be the way forward...more on them this week!
